In our discussion of Romans 13:1-7 this Wednesday last, which addresses the subject of temporal authorities being selected by God to govern the rest of us, Jim Crippen
reminded us of the quote attributed to Edmund Burke that , “The only thing
necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Today, Sisters and Brothers, you and I are called by God to do something good! We must see the world as it is, and not as we want to see it, to embrace the recent political and local social turmoil as a Call to Action, and not to Arms. The “Somebody Else” whom we expect to do what we aren’t able to accomplish, as in “Let ‘Somebody Else’ take care of this or that”, doesn’t exist!

We exist! We have the gifts and graces, the Spirit of God moving in and through us and our Church, that God counts on to change the world. And we can!
