The Reverend Dr. Phil Wood, was appointed to FFUMC on July 1, 2015. He prefaces his four-page biographical sketch with words from St. Augustine: “God has not called us to be successful, only to be faithful.” And that, Wood has done for 42 years in the Methodist ministry where one discovers he has lived by the proverbial creed, “Practice what you preach."
Serving seven congregations in Southern California (most recently 19 years at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Arcadia), Wood has contributed his talents to an overabundance of district, community and conference committees. His diverse talents have been recognized in many spotlights, among them: Community Service Award for founding chair of the Hate Crime Response Team in Glendale; Distinguished Alumni for Excellence in Community Service, Claremont School of Theology; 13-year director of the Methodist Hospital of Southern California board; and annual conference representative to the National Convocation on Hate Crimes and Violence of the United Methodist Church in St. Louis.
Phil and his wife Elsa have been married for 25 years.
